Period drama in which Sally Lockhart (Billie Piper) sets out to prove the richest and most powerful man in Europe, industrialist Axel Bellmann, guilty of corruption and fraud.
Sally Lockhart is determined to prove him guilty of corruption and fraud, while Bellmann will stop at nothing to destroy her case.
Meanwhile, Frederick Garland and Jim Taylor take on a detective job that begins in the misty realms of magic and spiritualism, but quickly throws them into a whirl of high-society danger and deceit.
Together, these investigations lead to the heart of Bellmann’s operation and eventually to the terrifying secret of the Shadow in the North.
